The Golden Age Project R1 ST is a stereo ribbon microphone designed for smooth reproduction of vocals and various instruments in home, project, and commercial recording studios. It features two mic sections—each housing a 50mm 2-micron aluminum ribbon—set in a Blumlein configuration for easy and accurate stereo recording. Alternatively, either mic section can be used for mono miking. With its passive design, no phantom power or batteries are required.
The nature of the ribbon elements combined with the transformer-balanced output yields a warm, musical tone devoid of brittleness. From whispered vocals to pounding drums, the R1 ST's 160 dB maximum SPL can handle a wide array of sound sources. The supplied detachable mic cable and splitter box allow the left and right outputs to be routed on standard XLR 3-pin cables. Additionally, the R1 ST ships with a shockmount, soft case, and protective hard case.
